Projects Funded

How does the Foundation support the local Sierra Club?

  • imageThe Foundation reviews the Chapter’s approved grants after each of its grants cycles and notifies the Chapter of those it may be able to fund.  Information on the Sierra Club Angeles Chapter conservation grants process is available on the Chapter’s website.
  • The ACF two active Endowments:  the Adam Burke Outings Endowment; and the ACF Board Designated Endowment.  Earnings from these endowments go to the Chapter’s account at The Sierra Club Foundation to support educational components of outings publications and the Chapter’s conservation programs.
  • The ACF maintains a number of separate funds for specific chapter projects, such as the Montebello Hills Task Force and South Bay Task Force.  Sierra Club project leaders may solicit donations for their projects, and donors get tax deductions.  Disbursements are jointly supervised by the project leaders and the Foundation Board.
  • The ACF receives both solicited and unsolicited general grants from agencies, corporations, and other foundations interested in helping Angeles Chapter projects, such as post-fire restoration of Angeles National Forest.   Note:  The Sierra Club does not accept grants from governmental agencies and does not ask many small local foundations.  ACF has been able to accept such grants for specific projects.
  • Chapter leaders have solicited grants and donations for specific purposes from individuals and organizations outside the Sierra Club.  ACF is the custodian for these funds, enabling donors to receive tax deductibility to the extent allowed by law.  Examples include support for Sierra Club initiated litigation.
  • The ACF Board works with Angeles Chapter leaders and staff to conduct fundraising activities through events, contributions and bequests.  All contributions to ACF are tax-deductible to the legal limits.
