Angeles ICO

Inspiring Connections Outdoors

Inspiring Connections Outdoors (ICO – formerly Inner City Outings) is a community outreach program that provides opportunities for urban youth and adults to explore, enjoy and protect the natural world. ICO volunteers work with schools, community groups, and other agencies to create safe and enjoyable outdoor experiences for persons who might not otherwise have them. ICO outings promote individual growth through group activities and environmental and outdoor skills education.

Although ICO trip leaders are volunteers with certified outings leader training, the program has significant expenses for transportation to pick up children from their neighborhoods, take them to the trailhead, and return them safely home. Other expenses include camping equipment, permits and fees, and fundraising expenses.

In 2012 Angeles Chapter Foundation raised $1825 for the Angeles ICO program from a year-end solicitation to Foundation donors; and in 2014-15 the Foundation contributed $13,000 from investment income generated by the ACF Adam Burke Outings Endowment.

In October 2014 the ACF directors established the Angeles Chapter Foundation ICO Endowment, from which investment income will be directed in perpetuity toward the ICO program, after the endowment is funded by a bequest or large donations.
