Welcome to the Energy Champion Project

The Angeles Chapter Foundation has taken on a new role as an “Energy Champion” in support of Los Angeles County’s “Energy Upgrade California” program.

Energy Upgrade California promotes energy and water efficiency and a renewable energy

generation retrofit program for your single family home.  The program is a one‐stop resource

for information on:

1. the benefits of building retrofits;
2. financing and incentives;
3. finding a qualified contractor;
4. workforce training;
5. home energy ratings.

A key feature of the program is coordination of federal, state, utility, and local government retrofit programs – helping you find them, identify incentives, contractors and get your questions answered about how to qualify as a participant.

Within the Energy Upgrade California is a program called “Energy Champions”(EC).  This is where the Angeles Chapter Foundation fits in.  EC was designed to reach out to nonprofits, and offer them a cash incentive  to get their members and affiliates to work with the program and introduce energy efficiency upgrades to homeowners.  When homeowners get a residential energy upgrade and mention Energy Champion Code #SIE066 on their application (whether a Sierra Club member or not), a reward of up to $500  goes to the Angeles Chapter Foundation.  The Foundation will then be able to make these funds available for the Chapter’s conservation projects.

Here’s where you come in. You can choose to get an upgrade yourself, and you can help us spread the word to others.  This helps us, and even more, it helps the PLANET.   Your role is to educate yourself about the availability of rebates and incentives for a single family residence, innovative financing options, home energy assessments, elements of a “Whole House Solution,” how to locate a certified contractor and the new Green Rated Homes certification, and much more.

The Chapter has a volunteer coordinator for this effort.  Through her,  you can arrange for Energy Upgrade California speakers for your local Angeles Chapter groups and other entities.   This way we can spread the word – an item for your social network page, your community meetings, your friends, colleagues, and co-workers – educating others about the Angeles Chapter Foundation’s involvement as an Energy Champion.
